Minamoto no Yoritomo was the warrior who established Kamakura
shogunate in 12th century. Before he came into power, he lost a battle in today’s
Kanagawa Prefecture, and crossed Tokyo Bay by a boat. He probably landed at Ryushima
Beach in Kyonan-town, and the locals are proud that the historical figure
stepped onto their land. The monument stands on the beach with the transparent
water, and the spot is often busy with people enjoying surf fishing.
