先だって来日しコンサートを行ったスティングの、1983年「ポリス」時代の曲。Every breath you take, every move you make, every bond you break, every step you take, I’ll be watching you. 「君の息づかい、きみの動き、君が壊した絆、君の一歩一歩、全てをボクは見ている」。実はラブソングではなくて、スティングが最初の奥さんと離婚する時に書いた曲とのこと、ストーカー気味の男のことを歌った歌なんです！Everyは、「ひとつひとつ」「それぞれ」という意味なので、単数扱いですよ。take, make, break, takeときれいに韻を踏んでいるところにも注目。スティングのこだわりぶりがかいま見られます。1984年のグラミー賞受賞曲です。

Happy Trailsは、1950年代にアメリカで人気のあった「歌うカウボーイ」ロイ・ロジャース主演の、テレビプログラムのエンディング曲です。以来、アメリカではお別れをいうときの定番ソングなんだそうです。Trailsというのは、舗装されていない山道などをいいます。ですから、Happy trails to youは、「よい道中を」という感じですね。Who cares about the clouds when we’re together? Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather. 「ぼくたちが一緒なら、曇りなんて気にならないね。歌を歌ってお日さまを呼んでこよう」。カウボーイが口笛を吹きながらゆったり馬を歩ませて進む光景が目に浮かぶような曲です。
