Trip to Monterey報告
カリフォルニア州モントレーへ行って参りました。
通常は8月に実施する研修旅行ですが、今回は現地のイベントとのからみで、ゴールデンウィークの開催となりました。
サンフランシスコに1泊、サンタクルーズではホームステイで2泊、モントレーに3泊しました。
今回の目玉は、モントレーで開催されたJapanese American Heritage Daysというイベント。
日系アメリカ人の歴史や遺産を振り返ろうというもので、初日にはサンフランシスコの日本総領事もお見えになり、モントレー市長や日系アメリカ人市民同盟の会長も列席され、しかしかなりリラックスした雰囲気で、オープニングセレモニーがありました。
私達は、南房総からの代表？として、今回複製されたモントレー万祝を納品し、そのレセプションのご相伴にあずかりました。
日系アメリカ人として誇りを持って生活しているみなさんのお話、とても刺激になりました。
また、5月はカリフォルニアでも花と緑の季節。あちこちで咲き乱れる花や野生動物の赤ちゃんを見る機会にも恵まれ、充実した旅となりました。

「この素晴らしき世界」
ルイ・アームストロングが歌って1968年にヒットしたこの名曲のタイトルは、直訳すると「なんてすばらしい世界なんだ」。Whatではじまる感嘆文のとても明快な例です。作曲者のG・ダグラスは、当時のベトナム戦争を嘆き、平和な世界を夢見てこの曲を書いたとのこと。「木々の緑、赤いバラ、青い空にうかぶ白い雲、なんて素晴らしい世界なんだ」あたりまえの風景の中に、しみじみとしあわせを感じさせてくれますね。スローなバラードで、歌詞もわかりやすいので、カラオケレパートリーにもおすすめです！

「ありのままで」
ディズニーは、ご存知のとおり数々のミュージカル映画を手がけていて、映像もすばらしいですが、音楽もいつも感動的です。現在封切られている「アナと雪の女王」の主題歌は、”Let It Go”「ありのままで」。Letは「〜させる」という意味ですが、抑えられている何かを解き放ち、いかせてやる、というイメージ。たとえば、捕まえた小鳥を放してやるシーンを想像してください。ぜひ映画を見て、このタイトルのイメージを体感してくださいね。

Aki was born and grew up in Kenya until she came to Japan to study in a university, where she finished her master course of Physical Education.
She was also in Yemen and Ethiopia as an over sea volunteer. Now Aki lives in Miyoshi with her husband and a daughter.
ケニア生まれ、ケニア育ち。日本で大学、大学院を出た後、海外青年協力隊としてイエメン、エチオピアへ。現在は夫、娘と三芳に在住。
